Training and Consultancy was founded by myself, Kathlyn Taylor, in 1992 when National Vocational Qualifications began to be developed in Scottish workplaces. As a qualified teacher and a mother of two boys, I set up my own school, The Hamilton School, in 1975. As an employer, I recognised the importance of well qualified and competent staff to the success of my school and I became committed to their training and development. It was a natural progress to offer Training, National Qualifications and Apprenticeships to those working in other Nurseries and this enabled to be established.

Throughout the following years, the demands of the Scottish Childcare Strategy, Curriculum Developments and HMIe inspections, regulation by the Care Commission and ultimately, staff registration with the Scottish Social Services Council, have challenged the sector in which staff are required to be highly trained and competent professionals. As the driving force in , I have been directly involved with the development of new standards for Childhood Practice which have set a challenging benchmark for the future.

In particular, has developed systems which enable those working in our sector to acquire and evidence an expertise which will meet the expectation of the regulators. In particular we can offer a Modern Apprenticeship which delivers Children's Care Learning and Development at Level 3 combined with Core skills in Communication, Information Technology and Numeracy, Problem Solving and Working with Others. also delivers Playwork, Management and Lead Practitioners' qualifications which ensure that there are opportunities for continuing career development.

works directly with Scottish Skills Development Agency with whom we are contracted to deliver Modern Apprenticeships along with other routes to qualification. We also work with other funding agencies such as Childcare Partnerships, individual employers and individuals who self fund.

also currently offers a wide variety of opportunities for those interested in or currently working in the Childcare Sector to find suitable placement with employers who are equally committed to excellence.
